10 Years of Barkley & Fetch | From One Idea to a Handmade Dog Brand

This week, Barkley & Fetch turned 10 🐾✨

It feels surreal to write that. Ten years ago, I was made redundant — and somewhere on that short drive home, Barkley & Fetch was born.

At the time, I had no idea what it would become. I just knew I loved dogs, I loved design, and I wanted to create something of my own.

Looking back now, I can honestly say that moment changed everything.

Where It All Began

Barkley & Fetch started in 2016 with one simple idea:
to create well-made, stylish dog accessories that actually last.

With a background in technical garment design, I approached dog accessories the same way I would clothing — thinking carefully about fit, construction, and fabric performance.

What began as a small idea has grown into a recognised UK handmade dog accessories brand, with customers and stockists not just across the UK, but also in the USA, Japan and Australia.

What is Barkley & Fetch?

Barkley & Fetch is a UK-based handmade dog accessories brand, founded by me, Jane Nketiah — a fashion designer and lifelong dog lover.

Every product is designed and handcrafted in-house using durable, carefully selected fabrics that are tested in real-life dog walks (rain, mud… and everything in between).

We don’t mass-produce overseas — everything is made with care, right here in the UK.

What I’ve Learned in 10 Years

As a lifelong dog lover, I’ve learnt so much over the past decade.

I’m still endlessly curious about different breeds — if I meet a dog I don’t recognise, I’ll almost always go home and Google it 😄

But one thing I’m very clear on:
I’m not a dog trainer, nutritionist or vet.

So whenever customers ask for advice in those areas, I always point them towards the professionals who truly know best. It’s important to me that dogs (and their owners) get the right support.
